The EPA offered information on how residents can protect themselves from radon:

EPA and the U.S. Surgeon General recommend that all homes, both with and without basements, be tested for radon. The only way to know if you have elevated levels of Radon is to test.

Fix.

EPA recommends taking action to fix radon levels above 4 Picocuries per Liter (pCi/L). Addressing high radon levels often costs the same as other home repairs. Fixing high levels of Radon is easy and fairly inexpensive.
